GOING GREEN
Whilst it is made relatively easy by the local council to recycle our domestic waste, on the whole the same is not true with the waste we produce at Woodham Windows.
We make recycling and the environment one of our top priorities. All the old frames we take out are stripped of their metal components and the uPVC ground down into pellets to be recycled into new frames. Plastic guttering, glazing beads and uPVC trims are all recycled and given a new lease of life.Old timber frames are chopped up and used to heat homes here in Woodham whilst aluminium from old conservatory roofs, windows and doors are all sent away to be melted down.
Nowhere locally recycles old double-glazed units in the quantities we produce them so for now we offer these free to good homes or unfortunately have to put them into landfill. Old foam filled uPVC fascia boards which cannot be recycled needs to be sent to landfill.
In the office, we print on both sides of our paper before it and all our cardboard waste goes off to be recycled. Our toilet paper comes from sustainable sources and our toilet works on a low volume flush. We have invested heavily in new low energy lighting across the office, but still turn off our computers and lights each evening before we leave. Where we can, we communicate by telephone or email to reduce paper use and where we need to use paper, we often walk or use a bike to deliver the letters by hand. We also have an old trade bike for the smaller jobs where only hand held tools will be needed.
Where we have to use one of our vans, they are all fitted with Euro 6 engines and utilise AdBlue technology to ensure that we don’t cause unnecessary damage to the environment.
